Mário Branco will remain at Benfica for 2026/27, with his position described as secure. According to Glorioso 1904, there is no scenario being considered in which the general manager for football departs.
Speculation surfaced after José Mourinho's exit, given their recent close working relationship. Their connection was reinforced by their spell together at Fenerbahçe before arriving at Benfica, but Branco remains fully committed to Rui Costa's project.
He is currently focused on preparing next season, taking part in strategic meetings at the club. The objective is to correct the season's mistakes and build a stronger structure.
That work covers squad planning and other key areas of the sporting organisation.
Despite his growing importance, there is interest in him, with at least one foreign club submitting a concrete proposal offering a new project abroad. Branco has been made aware of the approach and will not accept it.
