Martyn Irvine leaves West Brom Women interim role weeks after appointment | OneFootball

Martyn Irvine has left his position as West Brom Women interim head coach only weeks after being appointed. The club said in a statement that the departure was by mutual agreement and wished him well for the future.

Irvine, 39, was named interim on 22 June, stepping in while head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still is on maternity leave.

He arrived with more than 20 years of coaching experience and 12 years of service in the British Army. Before Albion he was assistant head coach at FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division rivals Stoke City, and previously worked in Nottingham Forest’s academy and with the Football Association.

Irvine had overseen pre-season, with the Baggies recording a 5-0 win over Leafield Athletic last weekend.

Assistant coach Charlie Fripp will take interim charge until Hodgetts-Still returns in the new year.

Albion face Portsmouth on Sunday, then host Wolves in their final pre-season friendly later in the week, both behind closed doors. Their FA Women’s National League Northern Premier campaign begins away at Stoke City on Sunday, 16 August, with a two pm kick-off.
