Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield believes his side is "far from the finished product", despite seven games unbeaten in League One.

Wycombe Wanderers have endured an exceptional start to the season, winning five of their opening nine games and only being defeated twice. Despite this, Matt Bloomfield remains adamant that his side is "far from the finished product."

The Chairboys sit in fifth place in League One, just three points behind the automatic promotion places, with a game in hand. Bloomfield's side have scored twice in all but one game so far this season, which happened to be their triumph against Crawley Town on Saturday.

A strong summer window has certainly left the Blues boss believing that his squad's potential is unlimited. After the international break, Wycombe will be looking to get Birmingham City and Wrexham looking nervously over their shoulders.

This time last year, the Buckinghamshire outfit were four points worse off than they find themselves now. Expectations were understandably lower at that point, as Bloomfield was in his first full season at the helm at Adams Park. Whilst the opening nine matches weren't bad last season, fans will be delighted to see more progress made this time around.

There also seems to be more consistency in results, as Wycombe are beating the teams they would be expected to beat. This is all thanks to the adaptive Bloomfield, who is working his magic with a strong squad. Watching Wycombe is a joy, as there is a clear identity and the 40-year-old manager seems to be feeling much more confident, thanks to an excellent vein of form at the end of last season.

During his first season as boss, Bloomfield's side failed to win a game after trailing. However, this unwanted record was quickly squashed early on, as Wanderers have managed two comeback wins so far this season, over Bristol Rovers and Northampton Town respectively.

There seems to be a real fight among this group of players. The manager laid the foundations for his squad last summer and has complimented and strengthened those foundations this summer.

Wycombe are "far from the finished product" despite a strong start

Bloomfield's determination and hunger for success have been proven by his recent statements after the victory over Crawley. Speaking to Football League World after the game, the 40-year-old was quizzed on his thoughts about his summer business, and the depth the Chairboys have available.

He said: "We fought really hard to get the group together that we've got. We were missing Aaron Morley, who has been very good for us, but the summer business I think was excellent.

"There were certain elements of our squad that we wanted to improve on, and I think we've been able to do that.

"There's still loads of work for us to do, we're far from the finished product, but in terms of the impact the new lads have to compliment the group, we have to be really pleased with that."

The former midfielder is ready to take on the big boys of League One, which will have those fellow promotion-chasing clubs looking at Wycombe with fear, thanks to the recent form the Chairboys have shown. If the Wanderers can collect results like they are now, despite not being the finished product as Bloomfield said, it bodes very well for their chances of promotion this season.

Birmingham and Wrexham will be looking nervously at Wycombe, despite defeating them

Wycombe's only two defeats this season were the opening two games of the season, as the current top two of Birmingham City and Wrexham narrowly beat them. Since then, the Chairboys have been on an upward trajectory towards the summit of League One.

The squad has been strengthened further since these matches, with the likes of Caleb Taylor and Fred Onyedinma, just to name a couple of the recruits coming through the door since these losses.

The comments by Bloomfield after the Crawley match show a clear indication that Wycombe want to be in that conversation for automatic promotion this season. Whilst they might not have been one of the names mentioned before the season kicked off, teams such as Rotherham United and Bolton Wanderers, who were expected to be up there, are struggling to string results together.

League One has so many teams that could potentially push for promotion, which makes Wycombe's start even more impressive. Under Gareth Ainsworth, the Buckinghamshire side were always the dark horses, not expected to be fighting at the top. This seems to be the case once again, as Bloomfield's side have gone quietly under the radar this summer, with a hugely successful transfer window. It seems that other teams and pundits are starting to take notice of the Chairboys as a genuine promotion contender.

Both Birmingham and Wrexham will be breathing a sigh of relief that they faced off against Wycombe early in the season, but they will now be feeling the pressure of the Chairboys breathing down their necks for those top two positions.
