Get to know more about the young 20-year-old Belgian attacking midfielder, who signed a five-year contract with the Rouge et Blanc this Saturday.

A fifth recruit has arrived at the foot of the Rock! Arriving this last Saturday in the Principality from FC Sevilla to sign a five season contract with AS Monaco, until June 2030, Stanis Idumbo already has a rich career, particularly at youth level, behind him. So before his big debut in his new colors, here’s what you need to know about him. Portrait 🔎

The ninth Belgian to play for AS Monaco 🇧🇪

This 2002-born player succeeds  Eliot Matazo, the last Belgian to have played at the Club. Trained in the same position as his compatriot, his speed and explosive profile now allows him to play as a left winger, where he can draw inspiration from a certain Yannick Carrasco, who was was part of the Club between 2010 and 2015. Before them, Robert Meuris, Enzo Scifo, Philippe Léonard, Adrien Bongiovanni, Youri Tielemans and Nacer Chadli had all played at the foot of the Rock.

A Belgian U-21… born in France! 🇲🇫

Although the new Monegasque player opted for the Red Devils in the under-15 category, before experiencing spells in the upper echelons and receiving his first call-up to the Belgian Espoirs in June 2024, he could have played for the Bleuets. Indeed, Stanis was born in the Paris region, in Melun in Seine-et-Marne.

Football, a family history ⚽

The new attacking midfielder for the Rouge et Blanc trained alongside his brother, Franck, who is five months his junior. Both played for Club Bruges and Gent, and the latter then moved to OH Louvain in 2022 before making his professional debut there in April 2023. He currently plays for FK Viagem (Czech 2nd division).

Impressive in the UEFA Youth League ✨

Stanis continued his training at Ajax Amsterdam at the age of 16. Initially integrated into the under-17s, he established himself as a key player in the U-18s and even proved decisive on the European stage. Involved in the UEFA Youth League, he scored three goals and two assists in seven matches, including a brace against Napoli (5-1)! It was a very good introduction for someone who could discover the “real” Champions League as a Monégasque.

A professional debut in the Dutch second division 🇳🇱

His remarkable performances led him to make his professional debut in January 2023 in a Keuken Champion Divisie (Dutch second division) match against FC Eindhoven (1-1). The Melun native then entered the big leagues, despite being only 17 years old. He then played 11 more matches before taking off for a new challenge at the start of 2024.

A first goal… against Barça! 🎯

His chose to join Sevilla FC, where he distinguished himself within the reserves, with whom he won the Spanish fourth division (11 matches, 2 goals). Gradually gaining the trust of the first team coach, he made his first steps in La Liga on September 1, 2024. He then distinguished himself by scoring in only his second appearance on the pitch of a renowned opponent: FC Barcelona!

Our new number 17 🔢

It will not have remained unused for long. Only just left by Wilfried Singo, who joined Galatasaray at the end of the transfer window, the number 17 will find a new home. After having worn many numbers on his back since the beginning of his career, Stanis Idumbo, who seems to have a weakness for the 7 (7, 17, 27, 37), has indeed opted for that left by the Ivorian. He also succeeds  Aleksandr Golovin, Youri Tielemans and Yannick Carrasco, his two Belgian compatriots.
