Introduced at half-time against Algeria at De Kuip, Rotterdam, he had a quiet outing. His only real chance came in the 38th minute of the second half, a first-time effort from the edge of the area that Luca Zidane saved. Algeria won 1-0 through Hadj Moussa.

In New York the Netherlands’ record scorer stayed on the bench as they beat Uzbekistan 2-1 with a stoppage-time goal, concluding their preparation for the tournament.

After that match Koeman said he does not think Depay is 100% ready to start yet, adding there is still a friendly and a few days of training, and he is not ruling anything out.

The Netherlands open their World Cup campaign against Japan in Dallas, United States, on Sunday at 17:00 Brasília time.
