Former Leeds United interim boss Michael Skubala has led Lincoln City to League One promotion with a 2-1 win at Reading, ending a 65-year wait to reach the Championship.
"We want to win the title, the lads have said that they definitely want to win it. It's going to be tough, but let's go and get that done as well. Every game is tough, but if we can go and put in some more good performances, we can do it." Skubala told Sky Sports.
At the Select Car Leasing Stadium, Lincoln conceded a 92nd-minute equaliser, then substitute Jack Moylan struck four minutes later to secure victory.
Skubala’s side are 19 points clear of third-place Bradford City with five games left, and are the first EFL club to clinch promotion this season. Their 24-game unbeaten run has them clear favourites for the title, 12 points ahead of second-place Cardiff City.
Appointed in November 2023, Skubala took his first permanent managerial role with the Imps after a short spell as Leeds’ interim head coach. He stepped in after Jesse Marsch’s exit, drawing 2-2 at Manchester United before losing the reverse fixture and suffering defeat at Everton.
"Every game is tough at this level. You have to be ready, you have to be on it, and Reading are a good team and it was an excellent goal from Lewis Wing that brought them back into it. I'm not really thinking about next season yet."
