Milan Secure Long-Term Agreement with Star Maignan | OneFootball

Milan have put the finishing touches on the much-awaited Mike Maignan extension. The announcement will arrive in the first week of February at the latest, Mediaset reports.

The Rossoneri stepped up their efforts to get the deal done during the Autumn. The goalie initially refused to engage in the talks, eyeing a Bosman departure. The pressure from coach Massimiliano Allegri and his teammates eventually broke through. The relatively new brass managed to mend fences with the player’s camp, who was irked by how the negotiation was handled in the past.

Maignan will pocket €5.5M plus add-ons once he puts pen to paper with Milan. Some bonuses will be easy to trigger, making it likely that he’ll earn as much as Rafael Leao, the highest-paid player in the squad, around €7M annually. The new expiration date will be 2030.

The Frenchman was close to a renewal last season, but the Rossoneri lowered their offer because of his subpar showings. He was open to departing last summer and was keen on Chelsea, but the offer was too low. He had been linked to Juventus too, but the San Siro-based side has been in the driver’s seat to retain him for a while now.
