Folarin Balogun’s fourth goal in four matches set Monaco on their way to a 2-0 win over Brest, on a night when Romain Del Castillo struggled.

As reported by L'Équipe, it was a night of contrasts for the two forwards.

The opener came in the 19th minute after Joris Chotard’s poor clearance in his area, Balogun escaped Junior Diaz to finish. Alexandre Golovine then saw his free-kick clawed off the line by Coudert on 35.

Diaz was booked at 45+2 for a heavy foul on Balogun. Coudert tipped Golovine’s curling effort from outside the area on 52.

Balogun went off for Biereth on 70 and the substitute added fresh legs. Denis Zakaria carried the ball to start the move for the second on 78, Biereth escaped Diaz and Golovine thumped in under the bar.

Brest fashioned little. Kamory Doumbia’s weak header on 82 was their only effort on target. Del Castillo was wasteful and was eventually replaced on 83 by Pathé Mboup, after 27 losses of possession and only 69% passing.

Wout Faes was assured at the back in a low-tempo game, and excelled in the air, as did Kehrer.
