Nice-Matin reports that AS Monaco will not exercise their option to sign Simon Adingra permanently after his loan from Sunderland, with the clause put between €5m and €10m, roughly £4.3m to £8.5m.

Some valuations around the time of the move placed the figure nearer £17m. Monaco’s stance hands Sunderland clarity on the winger’s immediate status.

Adingra joined in January and made 17 appearances in all competitions, scoring three and providing two assists. Often used as a wing-back, he showed flashes going forward but his defensive work was questioned, and his form proved inconsistent.

He is now set to return to Wearside this summer, where Florent Ghisolfi and Régis Le Bris will decide whether to reintegrate him, find another move or consider him within the wider Premier League group. That call will shape Sunderland’s attacking options.

Adingra remains in the Ivory Coast set-up. He was named in their World Cup squad and came on in the 74th minute of a 2-1 defeat to Germany, though he missed last season’s AFCON campaign.
