Simon Adingra is set to return to Wearside after Monaco opted against triggering a permanent option in his loan, NiceMatin reports.

He joined Sunderland last summer, delivering one goal and one assist in 15 appearances before moving to Monaco in January. The Ligue 1 club are also not taking up an option on fellow loanee Wout Faes, and a decision on Adingra’s long-term future will follow after this summer’s World Cup finals.

Elsewhere, RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande continues to attract attention amid links to Liverpool. His agent, Wolfgang Meier, said: “During negotiations with Leipzig, things also became very concrete with Sunderland. However, they didn’t want to trigger the release clause.” He told Sky Sports.

Goalkeeper Matty Young will return after another productive spell with Salford City, where he kept 16 clean sheets in 50 appearances last season. The 19-year-old signed a long-term Sunderland deal last month and is expected to head out on loan again next term.

Several clubs are reportedly keen on the highly rated stopper.
