The Confederation of African Football announced on Tuesday night that Senegal have been stripped of their Africa Cup of Nations title, with Morocco awarded the trophy by forfeit.

On 18 January in Rabat, Senegal had won 1-0 after extra time at the end of a chaotic final.

In second-half stoppage time, a Morocco penalty was awarded moments after a Senegal goal was disallowed. Several Senegal players briefly left the pitch in protest, and some supporters attempted to invade and threw objects.

Brahim Diaz missed the spot-kick. Extra time followed, and Pape Gueye struck the winner for Senegal.

The appeals jury has ruled the final a forfeit for Senegal, and the result is now recorded as 3-0 to Morocco. It cited tournament regulations stating that a team refusing to play or leaving the field before full time loses the match and is eliminated.

The ruling can be challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport within 10 days.

In late January, both federations received disciplinary sanctions, including fines totalling several hundred thousand euros, for unsporting conduct and breaches of fair play principles.

The appeal hearing for 18 Senegalese supporters jailed since the final, with sentences ranging from three months to one year for hooliganism, has been postponed to 30 March.
