Muamed Sejdini, former head of North Macedonia’s football federation, was arrested in Skopje on Thursday amid an investigation into possible embezzlement of funds.
The case relates to a €3.3 million contract for building a stand at the stadium in Ohrid. The federation said the agreement was signed without prior approval and included a €700,000 advance it considered irregular.
Sejdini was suspended from all official duties for two years in February. The 56-year-old had stepped down from his role in 2024.
Investigations are continuing, and further information would be communicated at the end of the procedure.
On the pitch, North Macedonia will not feature at the World Cup after losing 4-0 to Denmark in the play-off semi-finals.
