Mykhailo Mudryk has been handed a four-year ban by the The Football Association after testing positive for a banned substance in 2024.

The Chelsea winger was provisionally suspended in December 2024 after a routine urine sample returned an adverse finding while on international duty with Ukraine. He was later formally charged in June 2025 following analysis of his sample.

Mudryk has not played since November 2024 and has been unable to train with Chelsea during the suspension. The substance involved is understood to be meldonium, a medication that can enhance stamina and recovery.

The 25-year-old has now appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, seeking either to have the punishment overturned or reduced.

If the original sanction stands, the suspension is expected to be backdated to the start of his provisional ban, meaning he would likely remain sidelined until late 2028.

Sources close to the player are said to be hopeful the appeal could significantly shorten the punishment, similar to the case of Paul Pogba, whose four-year ban was reduced to 18 months.

Mudryk joined Chelsea in January 2023 in a deal worth an initial £61 million and has made 73 appearances for the Blues
