Corinthians icon Neto has condemned Jesse Lingard’s display in the 1-1 draw against Santa Fe in Colombia, accusing the Englishman of lacking intensity.
“Lingard just walks about, he does not run. He shows no desire to play,” he told Rádio Craque Neto after the match.
Lingard played the full 90 minutes and completed 39 of 43 passes. In his press conference, Fernando Diniz said it ranked among Lingard’s best outings, citing decisive moments and strong physical application.
The tie was played at Estádio El Campín in Bogotá, which sits 2,640 metres above sea level, a factor that can hinder high-intensity performance in a Libertadores quarter-final.
Announced on 6 March, Lingard made his debut on 1 April in a 3-1 defeat to Fluminense. He had not featured since December 2025 after leaving FC Seoul and underwent a period of physical readaptation.
He has logged 485 minutes across 11 appearances for Corinthians, scoring twice, the winner in the 1-0 victory over Barra in the Copa do Brasil and the second in the win against Peñarol in the Libertadores.
The midfielder is available to face São Paulo on Sunday at 18:30 in the 15th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
