Neuer downplays talk of bigger Urbig role at Bayern this season

According to BuLi News, Manuel Neuer has denied suggestions Bayern Munich have agreed to hand Jonas Urbig more game time this season, stressing that competition and teamwork will guide the club’s goalkeeping choices.

Asked if such an arrangement exists, the Bayern captain said he expects the situation to be similar to last season, noting a group that includes Sven Ulreich and the club’s young goalkeepers.

He added that the focus is on supporting and pushing team-mates rather than any guarantees over minutes.

The 40-year-old’s remarks indicate Bayern will continue to rely on internal competition between Neuer, Urbig, Ulreich and younger keepers through the 2026/27 campaign.

Last season, Neuer made 37 appearances and kept 11 clean sheets. Urbig recorded seven in 20 games.
