Michael Carrick addressed the press this afternoon ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Fulham on Sunday.

His men are undergoing their final preparations ahead of his third match in charge, during which they have the opportunity to make it three wins on the bounce and really stamp their authority in the top-four race.

United will enter matchweek 24 in fourth, so it’s really in their hands to keep overseeing positive results and not drift out of the Champions League places. The likes of Chelsea and Liverpool dropping points also wouldn’t go amiss either.

Nonetheless, Carrick will have to navigate the forthcoming run without one of the team’s most in-form players: Patrick Dorgu.

The full-back suffered a hamstring injury in the closing stages of United’s emphatic win over Arsenal last Sunday, with subsequent tests confirming he’d be out of action for around 10 weeks.

It came after Dorgu had scored in back-to-back matches against Manchester City and the Gunners, and was really playing with confidence while operating in a more advanced, attacking role.

His absence has prompted speculation on whether the club would enter the market before Monday’s transfer deadline to facilitate any stop-gap acquisitions to bolster Carrick’s ranks.

Unsurprisingly, the question was put to the boss himself at Carrington today, and he couldn’t rule anything out.

“We’re just working through it. Never say never because a lot can happen and situations can be thrown up, sometimes it’s in our control, and sometimes it’s not,” he said.

“We’re calm, we’ve shown what we’re capable of doing as a team. We’ll see what the next few days bring.”

Kick-off is at 2pm at Old Trafford on February 1, with Fulham currently sitting seventh-placed before the round of fixtures gets underway.
