“They want to sign a centre-back and he is the outstanding candidate for them.

“Everybody knows how keen on him they were last year, and he’s done nothing in the time since to put off potential suitors.

“He’s been brilliant for Crystal Palace and for England, and if anything his stock has gone up.

“Plus, he’s done himself a lot of favours by keeping his head down and getting on with the job, he’s never been distracted by all of the talk about his future.

“He’s not going to cost the £70million Palace turned down last year because of his contract situation.

“So for Newcastle, that will be a boost to their chances to get it done on a cheaper deal.

“That doesn’t mean he’ll be cheap by any means, but it won’t be that same £70million fee.“

Guehi’s Impressive Form In The Premier League This Season

Guehi has been a solid performer for the Eagles in the Premier League after putting in a run of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The 24-year-old has scored three goals and grabbed a couple of assists in 42 matches for Crystal Palace this season in various competitions.

The English talent has been a rock at the back based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 84% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Is Guehi A Good Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Guehi is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.

We can expect Guehi to bring more bite and steel to Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe’s defence. He is good enough to earn a regular first-team place at St. James’ Park next season.

At 24, Guehi has his peak years ahead of him which makes him an excellent option for the Magpies to pursue in this summer transfer window. He has already proven his worth in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Tyneside club.
