Recently, several English media sources, one of them being Jason Soutar, have reported that Newcastle United have contacted Manchester United to discuss a possible deal for Kobbie Mainoo. According to his report, Mainoo also seems ready to leave the club, which strengthens the possibility that something big could happen before this transfer window closes.
This news is of special importance for Newcastle United fans as their team are constantly looking to strengthen the midfield. At the same time, this situation is challenging for Manchester United as they have not recently given place to many young players in the plans of the new manager, Ruben Amorim. This is the reason why discussions about the English midfielder have gained momentum, and this transfer can affect the future of both clubs.
Mainoo performed brilliantly for Manchester United in 2023/24. He scored in the FA Cup final and then also made his Euro 2024 debut for England. Despite this, the 20-year-old’s role has been limited since Amorim’s arrival.

Mainoo has been benched in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system for the first two Premier League matches in the ongoing season. Negotiations over a new deal have also reportedly stalled, which is why a number of English and European clubs are monitoring his situation. Reports suggest he may prefer Champions League football, with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid also showing interest in him.
All in all, this is a smart move at the right time for Newcastle United. Adding a young and talented midfielder like Mainoo would give them depth and Eddie Howe a player who could be useful in the long term. Newcastle United are also playing in the Champions League this season, and it will be a great platform for Mainoo to further develop his skills.
He also needs regular games to keep his place in the England squad, which he may be able to get at Newcastle. There is a risk involved, though, as his current difficulties at Manchester United may have affected his confidence a bit, but the right environment and coaching could revive him. In our opinion the Mgapies should complete this deal as such a player would not only strengthen their current midfield but could also prove to be a lasting investment for the future.
