Neymar, 34, says the 2026 World Cup feels different and, viewing it as his last, he intends to savour every moment. He compared his excitement to that of an 18-year-old heading to a first tournament.
He is recovering from a grade 2 strain in his right calf sustained playing for Santos in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The CBF said a scan on Monday showed progress within the medical staff's expected parameters, keeping the initial plan in place.
Since linking up with the national team, he has followed an intensive programme of physiotherapy, strength work and load management.
The expectation is that he will begin on-field transition work this week, starting with physiotherapists and fitness coaches, before rejoining ball sessions with the squad.
The coaching staff led by Carlo Ancelotti remain cautious, and full training and matches will come only when there is no risk of aggravating the injury.
As a result, he is likely to miss Brazil's opener against Morocco, with the more probable scenario being availability for the second group game against Haiti.
Brazil's record scorer with 79 goals, Neymar is contesting his fourth World Cup after 2014, 2018 and 2022, seeking to help the Seleção chase a sixth title.
