Nice lost Elye Wahi to an ankle injury after 15 seconds and were beaten 0-2 at Lyon, with Claude Puel acknowledging they have few options without him.
Wahi was caught by Hans Hateboer as the Lyon defender followed through on a long clearance. He received treatment, briefly tried to continue, then left the pitch in tears and was replaced by Kaïl Boudache before six minutes. According to L'Équipe, the forward departed with a swollen ankle and a protective boot after initial ice treatment and crutches.
Nice controlled long spells of the first half but failed to take their chances. Sofiane Diop went close on 22 minutes, Tom Louchet on 28 and 49, and Boudache also missed, before Corentin Tolisso struck on 45+1.
Puel said it looked a bad sprain and that Wahi will undergo tests, while any return next weekend remains uncertain. The coach moved Mohamed-Ali Cho to centre forward rather than use Kevin Carlos, noting Cho provided depth but is still sharpening his finishing. Cho was also returning from injury.
Wahi has been pivotal since arriving on 1 January, the former Lens striker on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt scoring three in five Ligue 1 matches. His movement in behind and current confidence had given Nice their most incisive outlet.
