'Nightmare possibility' for Leeds United's rivals as £65m Solanke injury update emerges

Leeds United’s relegation rivals Tottenham are facing fresh fitness concerns, with £65m striker Dominic Solanke potentially sidelined and Xavi Simons already ruled out for the season.

Spurs ended their winless Premier League run with a 1-0 victory at Wolves, Joao Palhinha scoring in the second half, but remain third-bottom after wins for West Ham and Nottingham Forest. According to The Telegraph, scans suggest Solanke has a grade-two hamstring injury that could keep him out for three to eight weeks.

Victory came at a cost, with Simons forced off after a knee collision, and his season is over with an ACL rupture. Solanke had already departed in the first half, replaced by Richarlison, having only recently returned from a recurrent ankle issue.

Post-match, Roberto De Zerbi described Solanke’s problem as muscular and said the extent would be clearer early this week. He did not believe it was a big problem, but admitted he did not know how many games the forward might miss.

If Solanke is out for a month or more, he would be the fourth player to see his season curtailed since De Zerbi arrived four weeks ago. Mohammed Kudus had his campaign cut short last month, while captain Christian Romero and Simons have suffered fresh issues.

De Zerbi is due to update on Friday ahead of the visit to Aston Villa. An absence of just under two weeks would see Solanke miss a potential relegation six-pointer at home to Leeds on 11 May.

Leeds could secure safety at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if results fall their way by bettering Spurs’ next result and then taking a point. First they host already-relegated Burnley on Friday, a win taking them nine points clear of 18th-placed Tottenham, who have 12 points still to play for including Sunday’s trip to Villa Park.
