A 2-1 loss to Leicester City last weekend proved the final straw, with the team suffering defeat at home for the eighth consecutive time.

The Canaries find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle following their poor form in the opening 15 fixtures of the season.

Manning oversaw just two wins, with the team already four points adrift of safety and sat 23rd in the Championship table.

Here we look at all the latest news surrounding Norwich’s pursuit of a permanent successor for the 40-year-old…

Chris Sutton issues Norwich criticism

Christ Sutton has criticised Norwich’s recent claim that their ambition is to establish themselves as a Premier League club by 2028 following Manning’s sacking.

He has urged sporting director Ben Knapper and owner Mark Attanasio to hire a firefighter manager, as he believes the threat of relegation is one they must take seriously.

“I was stunned to learn that the club's annual report included an ambitious target of becoming an established top flight club by 2028,” wrote Sutton, via Pink Un.

“Are those in charge not seeing what's happening? Are they not watching a team that's regressed since Knapper took over in 2023?

“The Championship is absolutely brutal and relegation is a real possibility - that's why I think a firefighter should replace Manning.”

Jon Dahl Tomasson interview

It has been reported by John Percy that former Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has been interviewed by the Canaries regarding the managerial vacancy.

The Dane previously worked in the Championship with the Lancashire outfit, guiding them to a seventh place finish in the table during his only full season in charge.

The 49-year-old's most recent role came with the Sweden international team, where he was dismissed in October after an underwhelming start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.

It's also been claimed by journalist Paddy Davitt that the Championship side have also listed Gary O'Neil and Will Still amid Monday's interview with Tomasson, indicating no clear front-runner has yet emerged.

The club are hoping to finalise an appointment in time for their clash against Birmingham City on 22 November.

Mark Fotheringham eyed as Manning replacement

According to The Scottish Sun, Norwich have turned their eye to Celtic when searching for a replacement for Manning.

It’s believed that first team coach Mark Fotheringham is in contention to take over the side, with an appointment expected to be made before the end of the current international break.

The 42-year-old spent two years at Carrow Road as a player from 2007 to 2009, and was even made manager under Glenn Roeder.

His previous managerial experience came from his short-lived stint in charge at Huddersfield Town, where he oversaw five wins from 21 games during the 2022/23 campaign.

Gary O’Neil under consideration at Norwich

Another former Norwich player under consideration is O’Neil, as exclusively revealed by FLW.

The former Wolves manager is currently on the market, which has led to the Canaries making an initial approach.

It remains to be seen whether the 42-year-old is interested in a return to the Norfolk outfit, having played for the club from 2014 to 2016, although it's been reported by the BBC that an interview regarding the position has taken place.

O’Neil was linked with a sensational return to Wolves in recent weeks, but it was reported that he withdrew from talks with the club, who are now set to appoint Rob Edwards.

The former midfielder also enjoyed a stint in charge at Bournemouth, where he earned a 15th place finish in the Premier League before being replaced by Andoni Iraola in the summer of 2023.

Russell Martin is yet another former Norwich player that is currently on the market as a potential replacement for Manning.

It has been reported by Sky Sports that the Championship side are keen on talks with the 39-year-old about the possibility of his appointment.

Martin has endured a difficult last 12 months, having been sacked by both Southampton and Rangers.

However, his most recent experience in the Championship saw him guide the Saints to promotion to the Premier League.
