Nottingham Forest have submitted a £35 million offer for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, with personal terms not expected to be an issue, according to NY Times.
Palace will only consider a sale if their valuation, understood to be around £40 million, is met and a replacement is secured. The club are assessing forward options, including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Mateta has started all 23 of Palace’s league matches this season, scoring eight, although only two have come in his last 11. On Friday, Oliver Glasner said the forward had not submitted a transfer request. “It is pretty clear,” he added. “JP will stay if we don’t have the right replacement who can play immediately.”
Forest are pursuing attacking reinforcements, with Chris Wood limited to eight league appearances following knee surgery. They have scored 23 league goals, the second fewest in the division. Arnaud Kalimuendo has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan and the club have looked at further options, including Olympiacos striker Mehdi Taremi. They have also signed Lorenzo Lucca on loan from Napoli, with an option to buy for around €40 million.
Forest and Palace meet in the Premier League on Sunday. Relations have been strained since UEFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled Palace had breached multi-club ownership rules last summer, leading to their demotion from the Europa League to the Conference League. Forest, who wrote to UEFA seeking clarity on which competition they would play in, replaced Palace in the Europa League.
