Nottingham Forest will honour John Robertson on Sunday, officially renaming The City Ground’s Bridgford Stand after the club great.
The club said in a statement that the move will ensure the legacy of their greatest player is remembered for ever. The change follows a recommendation from owner Evangelos Marinakis to the board.
Robertson, who died on 25 December last year aged 72, made 516 appearances and scored 95 goals for Forest. He set up Trevor Francis for the winner against Malmo in the 1979 European Cup final, then scored against Hamburg as Brian Clough’s side retained the trophy the following year.
Members of Robertson’s family and former teammates will attend, with a reception to be held in the boardroom. The tribute comes before the Reds’ final match of the season, at home to Bournemouth.
Ahead of the four pm kick-off, the group will head pitchside to join supporters in a moment’s applause. The matchday programme will be largely dedicated to Robertson.
Supporters are asked to be in their seats by 15:40, 20 minutes before kick-off.
