Nou Mestalla has completed installation of the pillars that will carry its vast new roof, a significant structural milestone and part of one of the project’s most complex elements.
According to AS, with the pillars now in place the next major step is assembling the roof using tension cables and compression rings, with works progressing in line with the planned calendar.
The roof will be translucent, filtering Mediterranean light and shielding every seat from sun and rain. It is intended to enhance comfort in all conditions and amplify the stadium’s acoustics.
A photovoltaic array will be integrated to improve energy efficiency.
The system is engineered with advanced tension-cable technology by Schlaich Bergermann & Partner, akin to solutions used at the Metropolitano and Berlin’s Olympic Stadium.
Valencia retain a target of completing Nou Mestalla by summer 2027. The site is beginning to shed its long-stalled, skeletal look, moving closer to its final form.
