Paris Saint-Germain Féminines have confirmed the appointment of Paolo César as head coach on a permanent basis, according to an official club announcement. The Brazilian signs a deal running until June 30, 2027, having served as interim manager since early 2024.

César, who made over 60 appearances for PSG’s men’s team between 2002 and 2007, returned to the capital club in a coaching capacity in recent years. After stepping in to steady the ship mid-season, he guided Les Parisiennes to the final of the inaugural Première Ligue – the new format of France’s women’s top flight – where they were beaten 3-0 by serial champions Olympique Lyonnais Féminin.

PSG finished second in the regular season standings behind Lyon, securing a place in next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.

A three-time Brazil international during his playing career, César was part of the PSG side that lifted the Coupe de France in 2006. His emotional attachment to the club was clear in Monday’s statement: “I am deeply committed to this club, to its values and to this section that I have seen grow. It is with great enthusiasm and determination that I take this responsibility today.”

The task ahead is a daunting one. Lyon have won 18 of the last 19 French top-flight titles, with PSG’s lone triumph coming in the 2020-21 season. However, with a young core and César’s familiarity with the club’s ecosystem, PSG hope this new chapter will bring long-awaited domestic dominance.
