In the Algarve, Oliver Glasner is laying Nottingham Forest’s new foundations, with a 12-day camp ending on Friday. According to Nottingham Post, the extended trip marries his plans with elements inherited following Vitor Pereira’s departure.

Training has moved to single, longer sessions to raise intensity and deliver messages cleanly. Players are urged to take responsibility in possession and to embrace unity and enjoyment, while standards remain demanding.

Glasner wants intensity and a press, while accepting there will be spells defending deep. Set-pieces will be prioritised and a lack of height informs recruitment. Wing-backs are central in a 3-4-2-1, with narrow twin 10s expected to combine for goals.

Xaver Schlager has signed and featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Vitoria, and Forest want four further additions. A right-back is targeted, with a push for Feyenoord’s Givairo Read. Ousmane Diomande is being pursued for the defence, and Lucas Bergvall is earmarked in midfield.

A physical back three is envisaged, with Diomande for the right alongside Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo, while Jair Cunha has impressed but has nine Premier League games. With no Europe, a leaner squad is likely, plus potential loans for Zach Abbott and Tyler Bindon.

Up front it is quality over quantity, with a tall, physical yet mobile striker who can run in behind the profile sought, and Jean-Philippe Mateta is not under consideration. Chris Wood hit 20 in that seventh-placed season but, after a serious knee injury, repeating it looks a big ask, though he remains influential. Morgan Gibbs-White scored 15 last season, Igor Jesus six and Taiwo Awoniyi four.
