Oliver Glasner struck an ambitious but cautious note as Nottingham Forest prepare to host Leeds United on the opening day, refusing to discuss silverware so early.
The Austrian, who announced in January he would leave Crystal Palace and then won the Europa Conference League in May, took charge at Forest earlier this month after Vitor Pereira departed. His first league match at the City Ground is on Saturday, August 22. According to Round Table, he used Thursday’s first press conference to outline ownership ambition and the need for patience.
"When we had talks, I found one of the few people more ambitious than I am, which is quite difficult. So I think we challenge each other with ambition."
He said ambition is widespread in the Premier League but does not guarantee success, adding there was no point discussing trophies after only two days. He stressed the priority is building consistency and said that with the right ingredients across the club, they can hopefully be successful.
Glasner cautioned that changing a team’s approach can take three to six months. He reminded reporters he is not a magician and said there is no quick fix to win the Premier League, emphasising hard work and mutual support as the basis for success.
