The Ormaetxea family will drive more than 900 kilometres from Donostia to Seville in a custom txuri-urdin van to back Real Sociedad in the Copa final on 18 April.
According to Diario Vasco, their electric van has been wrapped by family firm Rotulek of Astigarraga, featuring the club crest, txuri-urdin colours, the poliki-poliki motto and a giant image of Mikel Oyarzabal with the 2021 Cup on the rear.
They decided on the project after the semi-finals, putting in around 30 hours of design, preparation and application. The Oyarzabal idea came from son Josu. The van turns heads, which they admit can feel a touch embarrassing.
The plan is set, they leave Gipuzkoa on Thursday morning, two days before the final, with Josu driving alongside friends. Being electric means two or three stops, so they aim to arrive calmly on Friday. A house in a nearby village, complete with pool, was booked even before the semi against Athletic.
Iñigo travels on Friday too. Both are club members, Iñigo for more than 25 years and Josu for fewer. The ballot secured Iñigo a ticket but not Josu, and the father is ready to hand over his seat if needed, recalling Zaragoza in 1987 when Real brought the Cup home in fierce heat. Josu is prepared to pay whatever it takes should a held allocation be released, despite prices and extra costs at La Cartuja, plus travel and accommodation.
They believe a one-off final gives La Real a chance against anyone, pointing to Atlético in Zaragoza and form trending upward. Matarazzo’s Real Sociedad has shown it can go toe to toe with any opponent. For them, Oyarzabal embodies the club’s spirit, and with around 30,000 txuri-urdin supporters heading south, Seville will take on a distinctly blue and white look.
