Crystal Palace kicked off their first ever European group-stage campaign with a night to remember, sealing a comfortable 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv in Poland.
The Eagles, who arrived riding the wave of an 18-match unbeaten run, looked anything but nervous on the continental stage. They settled quickly and took control, with Dynamo offering little threat going forward.
It was Daniel Muñoz who wrote his name into Palace’s history books after half an hour. The Colombian full-back stole in at the far post to meet Yeremy Pino’s teasing cross, sending a looping header over the stranded goalkeeper to give Palace the lead.
The second goal came just before the hour mark and once again Pino was at the heart of it. The Spaniard produced a dazzling piece of footwork down the left before sliding in a perfect delivery for substitute Eddie Nketiah, who made no mistake from close range.
If there was one sour note on an otherwise ideal night for Oliver Glasner’s men, it came with a late red card. Borna Sosa, introduced from the bench, was dismissed with 14 minutes to play.
Still, it did little to dampen the mood. Palace looked confident, organised and ruthless - the perfect way to announce themselves on the European stage.
