Kicker reports that former Leicester City striker Patson Daka’s unveiling as a new Hamburg professional is a mere formality. The 27-year-old is due at Hamburger SV headquarters this evening. After undergoing a medical on Tuesday, the Zambian international will head to Austria to join his HSV teammates at HSV’s Längenfeld training camp.
Whilst playing for Red Bull System clubs FC Liefering and RB Salzburg in Austria, Daka scored 68 goals in 125 competitive appearances. It was such that Leicester were willing to pay €30m to acquire him in the summer of 2021. The 57-times-capped international nevertheless saw his production totals dry up over the course of five seasons in England. His expiring contract was not renewed by the EFL Championship outlet.
Daka unfortunately couldn’t help Leicester from being relegated in two successive league campaigns. Hamburg – who find themselves in dire need of attacking assistance – will be hoping to avoid the same fate as they enter their second consecutive Bundesliga season. All sources reporting on the impending Daka deal confirm that Hamburg plan on signing at least one more center forward before the summer 2026 transfer window closes.
