According to L'Équipe, he said "I am everything" after the whistle, reflecting a hybrid role rather than bravado. Paulo Fonseca described him as effective across positions, if not the most polished technically.
Given a ninth league start in 17 rounds, he opened the scoring on 38 minutes from a Corentin Tolisso corner flicked on by Nicolas Tagliafico. He restored the lead on 57 minutes with a low angled finish.
Two shots on target, two goals told the story. Used as a false right winger and with Martin Satriano omitted, he had 23 touches and completed five of nine passes.
At mid-season he has 16 goal involvements in all competitions, 11 goals and five assists. In France only Mason Greenwood with 19 and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with 17 have more.
Sulc, 25, is not a ball carrier in tight spaces, which initially pointed to a bench role. A lack of direct attackers, and Malick Fofana’s ankle injury in October, altered his outlook.
Lyon tightened up after the break and Mamadou Coulibaly’s 70 minutes red card helped them close it out. It was a fourth straight win in all competitions and a first away league victory since 28 September, 1-0 at Lille. They are fifth at halfway and believe Endrick next week, then Fofana by month’s end, will transform their attacking potential.
