Pep Guardiola understands Rodri’s stance on a possible Real Madrid move | OneFootball

Pep Guardiola has not ruled out Rodri leaving for Real Madrid, saying he would understand the midfielder’s stance while stressing he wants him to remain at Manchester City.

As reported by L'Équipe, Guardiola addressed the topic on Friday at his press conference, held on the eve of City’s Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.

He said few players would reject the chance to play for Real Madrid and that he understood the appeal, noting Rodri was born in Spain.

Rodri is under contract with the Premier League club until June 2027. The 2024 France Football Ballon d'Or winner has already opened the door to a possible move before that date.

Guardiola added that his preference is for Rodri to stay for as long as possible, describing him as an outstanding, top-level player, but he underlined that the final decision belongs to the player.
