According to O Jogo, Porto did not vote against using VAR for corner decisions at the recent Liga General Assembly, as claimed by Sporting president Frederico Varandas.
The board led by André Villas-Boas backed the measure, which stems from an IFAB proposal. Although the ballot was secret, Porto made its stance public.
Varandas had alleged that Porto opposed Sporting's move to implement VAR for corners. He argued that IFAB had permitted the change without obliging leagues to adopt it, and said Sporting, after benefiting from a contentious incident, proposed bringing it into force, criticising Porto after a season of complaints.
Sporting's motions were ultimately rejected at the Assembly. Even so, on VAR for corners Porto's vote was in favour.
The row centres on whether to apply IFAB's allowance for VAR in corner situations, which remains optional.
