In recent times, Adam Wharton has established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders.

At just 21, Wharton is already a first-team regular for Crystal Palace, with over 50 competitive appearances under his belt.

The youngster has impressed onlookers with his ability to distribute possession and control the tempo of the game. Needless to say, this has attracted the interest of many clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid.

As Los Blancos look to upgrade their options in midfield next season, Wharton has emerged as one of the potential candidates.

However, Crystal Palace are determined to keep hold of their star midfielder and are, therefore, looking to renew his contract, reports Daily Mail (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Wharton’s contract at Palace expires in 2029. But given the recent interest from top European clubs, the Eagles are looking to secure the player’s future by handing him a new contract.

In the new deal, Palace are expected to insert a release clause worth around €90 million as they look to fend off interest from other European clubs, including Real Madrid.

Through the new release clause, Palace would be hoping to deter clubs like Real Madrid, who are desperate to sign a new midfielder, but like to operate with fiscal prudence.

Apart from Los Blancos, Wharton is being tracked by a host of Premier League giants, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Keeping that in mind, it will be interesting to see whether or not Real Madrid will go all out for Wharton next year, especially having missed out on Martin Zubimendi this past summer.
