  1. Bernardo Silva leaves Manchester City following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season and becomes a free agent.
  2. Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign the Portugal international and help from star agent Jorge Mendes is expected to play big part in any transfer.
  3. The City captain has become a target for many clubs across Europe including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea have entered the race to sign Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva when his contract expires this summer, according to Spanish reports.

Silva has made 460 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side and featured in his last match for the club when City were defeated by Aston Villa on the final day of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

He was joined by Guardiola and John Stones in saying goodbye to the Etihad Stadium – a place where all three played pivotal roles in the unprecedented success achieved by the club over the last decade.

Bernardo Silva, having joined from AS Monaco in 2017, arrived as one of Pep Guardiola’s earliest signings and grew to become a passionate leader in the dressing room, eventually being named captain at the start of the now-concluded 2025/26 season.

The 31-year-old has hardly regressed during a campaign where he has featured 53 times across all competitions and will likely look to remain at the very top level across Europe.

La Liga clubs Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have already conveyed their desire to take the six-time Premier League winner to Spain, while AC Milan and Juventus remain in the race.

Interest from the Premier League in Bernardo Silva

Though there was not any initial interest coming from English clubs, it is now reported by Marca, with information translated and relayed by Sport Witness, that Chelsea are after the Portugal international.

Silva is represented by one of the world’s leading agents, Jorge Mendes, who also supports the likes of Lamine Yamal, Vitinha and Ruben Dias. It is thought that strong ties with him may help strengthen the likelihood of a transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Not only is this due to Mendes working for Blues winger Pedro Neto, but also two former Chelsea head coaches in Jose Mourinho and Enzo Maresca, who is likely to be the next Manchester City manager

What Bernardo Silva will be thinking as a big decision looms

For Bernardo Silva, it is a question as to whether he would want to stay in England or move elsewhere after such a long and successful journey at the Etihad Stadium, which has spanned nine enjoyable years.

There are, of course, other avenues that Bernardo Silva could take to remain at the top and while there is active desire from Benfica and Inter Miami, the most attractive opportunities come from Spain.

Atletico see Silva as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann and someone who can increase their standards next season after they came close to reaching the UEFA Champions League Final before securing a top-four finish in La Liga.

Barcelona would also be a dream pick for any player, though financial contraints may prove to be a barrier when facing Bernardo Silva’s wage bill regardless of his void transfer fee.
