Burnley look to capitalize on a decent run of results in their battle against Spurs on Saturday as Thomas Frank fights to fend off the sack at Turf Moor.
Scott Parker’s side have won just three times all season, but back-to-back draws against Man United and Liverpool have put them within six points of Nottingham Forest in 17th.
Spurs lie 14th in the Premier League after one win in seven matches, yet their 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund in their mid-week Champions League clash relived some of the pressure.
Although his players have been booed off the pitch on many occasions this season, including their last-gasp 2-1 defeat to rivals West Ham, Frank insisted their triumph over the German side did wonders for the club’s unity.
He said: “That energy between the fans and the players was magic.
“What I feel the whole time is the staff is with us, I think the players are with us, the ownership, everyone wants the same thing and we’re on the same page.”
After winning that game Frank has been given the trust to take charge of this one but Premier league results and performances have to improve desperately.
On top of his side’s poor league form, the Dane still faces a wealth of first-team injuries and Mathys Tel’s demand to leave Spurs after being omitted from their Champions League squad.
Frank has been insistent that the sides performances aren’t being reflected by the results, yet in such a results-driven business those points on the board are what really count.
Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, and Richarlison are all expected to be out for a considerable amount of time with thigh injuries.
Veteran centre-half Ben Davies isn’t expected to feature for the rest of the season with an ankle issue, with the same injury ruling out Lucas Bergvall for some time.
Winger Dejan Kulusevski is still out, whilst Palhinha faces a late fitness test to determine his availability for Saturday.
Despite sitting 19th and eight points behind Forest, the Clarets have looked capable of getting results for some time now and have a chance to put pressure on teams above them.
Earning another three points would both heap further pressure on West Ham and Nottingham Forest and Spurs boss Frank.
Burnley boss Parker said that “a lot of learning has been done” since their 3-0 defeat at the Tottneham Hotspur Stadium on the opening day of the season.
He said: “The first game of the season was a shock to us, we were a young team.
“It was an eye opener for players and we showed that in our game.
“The team have developed and learnt and we have shown that throughout the season. A lot of learning has been done.”
However, he said he believes that Frank’s precarious situation will not influence the dynamic of the game and that managers head into every game under pressure.
Burnley are still without their captain and midfield stall-wart Josh Cullen, who sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is out until at least the end of the season.
Zeki Amdouni is also expected to continue his recovery from a separate knee injury – the Swiss attacking midfielder is joined by Conor Roberts and Jordan Beyer.
