PSG’s Rodri pursuit seen as ‘reaction’ to Real Madrid’s Yan Diomande move | OneFootball

Just when Real Madrid seemed to have the signing of Manchester City’s Rodri all wrapped up, PSG have entered strongly and are threatening to hijack the deal.

The situation, ironically, is very similar to how the parties are reversed in the story of Yan Diomande. In that case, the French club had an agreement with the Ivory Coast-based player and Real Madrid entered the scene at the last minute.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, it is no coincidence that PSG and Real Madrid are clashing on their targets, and there is likely a direct connection between the two sagas.

A ‘reactionary’ move

Indeed, as confirmed by the Italian journalist, the recent links between PSG and Rodri are thought to be a ‘reactionary’ response of the French club to Real Madrid entering the race for Diomande.

Several industry experts believe that Luis Enrique’s side are deeply unhappy with Real Madrid trying to hijack the deal for Diomande and even getting the better of them to enter the pole position.

The only reason the Parisiens are pursuing Rodri, thus, appears to be to get even with Real Madrid and to give them a taste of their own medicine. There does not appear to be a direct sporting backing to the sudden development.

Set to win both

While PSG are entering the race to ‘teach’ Real Madrid a lesson on negotiating with a player they had an agreement with, it is highly unlikely to yield anything.

As matters stand, Real Madrid are on top in both negotiations and all signs point to them winning the battle on both fronts.

Diomande has now made Real Madrid his target, and all that remains before the move is made official is an agreement between the two clubs over the transfer fee.

In Rodri’s case, even an improved economic offer from PSG is unlikely to change anything given that the player is said to be indifferent to the salary he nets.

Rodri’s priority is simply to return to Spain after completing football at the World Cup, and Real Madrid offer him the best chance to do so. A move to France, needless to say, will not appeal to him irrespective of the economics.
