Furness retires following an impressive playing career for both club and country that spanned over 23 years, starting at Chester-le-Street Ladies.

In the early stages of her career, Furness spent four years with Newcastle United Women, crowning it as a full circle moment when she returned to her childhood club last summer.

During the 2024/25 season, she made 18 appearances for Becky Langley’s side, scoring two goals - including a header against Birmingham City in her final home game at Kingston Park.

Her decorated international career saw her pick up 95 caps for Northern Ireland, scoring a record-breaking 38 goals to become the all-time leading scorer across both the women's and men's national teams.

On finishing her career at Newcastle United Women, Furness said: "Returning to my childhood club was a dream come true. The little girl who once had a dream never imagined she would get to live it.

"This city, these fans - they will always have my heart."
