Rangers are interested in signing Southampton striker Cameron Archer before next Monday’s transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam.
Rangers manager Danny Rohl wants attacking reinforcements at the Ibrox club and the Bears have been linked with Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi.
The Light Blues have offered a new bid of around €3.6 million and a sell-on clause for him, but, the German club do not want to lose him.
Rangers are now looking at other options to bring to the Ibrox club before the deadline, with Archer emerging as a target.
Rangers also have Leeds United striker Joel Piroe on their radar, and more players could be linked with the Bears in the coming hours.
Archer has four goals in 23 games for the Saints this term after notching five goals in 40 appearances last term.
The 24-year-old Rangers target has proven himself in the Championship, with 20 league goals to his name across three seasons in the division.
Archer had earlier loan spells at Preston North End and Middlesbrough and will bring enough experience to the Bears’ attack having also featured for the likes of Sheffield United and Solihull Moors.
Southampton are hoping to secure a return to the Premier League at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether they will be open to losing one of their key players.
Rangers are desperate to get a deal for a new striker over the line before the deadline to boost their chances of pipping Hearts and Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.
They are just four points behind league leaders Hearts after 23 matches and having a stronger squad would come in handy in the coming games as the top-three battle for the top prize.
