Rayo Vallecano’s first-team squad, backed by the coaching staff, have issued a statement via AFE criticising the Estadio de Vallecas pitch and the club’s Ciudad Deportiva.
The players said in a statement that they went close to three months in pre-season without training at the Ciudad Deportiva because of the state of the pitches, and that months later bad weather forced sessions on a synthetic surface off site.
Over the last month the Estadio de Vallecas surface has been clearly deficient and has deteriorated week by week, leaving it unstable and unplayable and prompting sessions to be moved to the training ground. It does not meet the minimum conditions to stage a top-flight match.
Other problems listed include days without hot water in the showers, inconsistent cleaning and outdated facilities.
These points have been taken to the club president on several occasions, but promised solutions and explanations have not resolved matters. The situation is described as a risk to players’ physical integrity and to basic working conditions.
The aim is not to create conflict or distract from Saturday’s game, and the group remain fully focused and committed. The call is for dignified working conditions and greater care for an exemplary fanbase. There is also a note of thanks to AFE for its support.
