Kicker reports that former RB Leipzig captain Peter Gulacsi’s proposed move to Villarreal is beginning to take shape. The 36-year-old goalkeeper is preparing to leave the Bundesliga after spending 11 years with the German Red Bulls.

Gulacsi faced increasing competition from highly rated Belgian prospect Maarten Vandevoordt during last season’s training camp. The experienced Hungarian nevertheless retained the trust of head coach Ole Werner and remained Leipzig’s first-choice goalkeeper for much of the 2025/26 campaign.

Vandevoordt eventually displaced Gulacsi in April, signalling that Leipzig were ready to begin a long-planned transition between the posts. Gulacsi was subsequently handed what appeared to be a symbolic farewell when he returned to the starting XI on the final matchday of the Bundesliga season.

A transfer to Villarreal would now offer the veteran an opportunity to continue playing at a high level while bringing his lengthy association with Leipzig to a close.
