Real Madrid face a squad squeeze as Yan Diomande and Rodrigo Hernández are due to be announced in the coming hours, once talks with Leipzig and Manchester City are finalised. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, José Mourinho has returned to an overstocked squad and warned several players they will not get minutes.
At left-back there are three options, Marc Cucurella, Álvaro Carreras and Ferland Mendy. Mendy is seen as likeliest to go given his injuries. Carreras has underwhelmed, but the 50 million euros paid to Benfica are unrecoverable, so Mourinho will try to revive him.
At centre-back Madrid have Dean Huisen, Antonio Rudiger, Ibrahima Konaté and Raúl Asencio. Mourinho has told the Canary Islander he is not in his plans, and Jorge Mendes is seeking him a club.
Rodri’s arrival crowds midfield alongside Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchoumaneni and Eduardo Camavinga. Camavinga has told the club he will not leave, despite being warned he will not have the same opportunities. In attacking midfield, Bernardo Silva and Yan Diomande join Bellingham, Vinícius, Rodrygo, Brahim, Arda Guler and Mastantuono.
Up front, Kylian Mbappé is alongside Gonzalo García and Endrick, three for one role the Frenchman will monopolise. Gonzalo García, the only one favouring a move for minutes, has chosen Arbeloa’s Fulham. Mourinho rates him as the sole area nine but the club back Endrick, who cost 72 million, and Madrid have closed at 40 million for 70 percent after seeking a little over 60 million.
