This summer has seen Real Madrid continually linked with several key players from Manchester City. Josko Gvardiol was named as a Real Madrid transfer target by Fabrizio Romano, but the Croatian international looks set to sign a contract extension. Rodri was another player named as a target for the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners. But he also seems set to remain at City given that Real Madrid have signed City legend Bernardo Silva to add experience to their midfield. Now Manchester City’s defensive leader Ruben Dias has been named as a potential target for Real Madrid. Perhaps that move depends entirely on what Ruben Dias wants to do at this stage of his career.
Mark Brus has reported via his exclusive Daily Briefing column (subscription required) that Real Madrid have an interest in signing Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes from Manchester City this summer. Forgetting the Matheus Nunes angle, as there is little chance of City selling him this summer, the leadership, winning mentality and experience of Ruben Dias is viewed by Jose Mourinho as a useful addition to his squad. Furthermore, Brus reports that Manchester City have no interest in selling Matheus Nunes or Ruben Dias this summer.
First of all, at this stage of the summer, it seems that if Manchester City threw out a couch, Real Madrid would have an interest in signing it. They have been linked with a host of City players since the 2025-26 season ended. Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes are the latest pair to named as potential Madrid transfer targets. There is no chance that City will sell Matheus Nunes this summer. It doesn’t seem that City would sell Ruben Dias this summer. He’s too important to the City squad with his leadership and experience. However, perhaps Ruben Dias may fancy a new challenge.
Manchester City are well stocked with centre-backs. They have Ruben Dias, Abdukodir Khusanov, Josko Gvardiol and Marc Guehi in their squad. Vitor Reis looks set to be a part of Manchester City’s squad for next season. It doesn’t seem unrealistic that perhaps Ruben Dias may see his chances of regular first-team football diminished at City. If that is how Dias sees his situation, perhaps a move to Real Madrid may appeal to the Portuguese international. However, it would be unlikely that City will want to lose one of their leaders when they embark on a new era.
Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes are the latest City players to be named as potential Real Madrid transfer targets. There is no chance of Matheus Nunes leaving Manchester City but perhaps Ruben Dias may face a new challenge. That does seem unlikely at this stage but anything is possible this summer it seems.
