Antonio Rudiger is one of the few Real Madrid players who are facing an uncertain future at the club as we enter the final few months of the season.

Rudiger’s contract at Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of the season. Given his success at the club, one would suggest that a contract extension is a no-brainer.

However, the two parties are yet to reach a final agreement, with many believing that the German could leave the club in the summer.

Rudiger’s situation remains 50:50

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Real Madrid’s defensive unit, including the future of Rudiger.

He suggests the German’s future at Bernabeu remains uncertain and is currently in a ’50:50′ stage, meaning it is not certain he will continue.

That being said, Rudiger’s extended stay has not been completely ruled out either. The former Chelsea star has already made a huge difference since returning to full fitness.

His experience, coupled with his leadership have been a boon for an otherwise inexperienced and struggling Real Madrid backline.

Rudiger’s experience will be particularly important when Real Madrid take on Manchester City this midweek, in the first leg of the Round of 16 clash.

The same cannot be said for David Alaba. The Austrian veteran is destined to leave the club at the end of the season, when his contract comes to an end.

Alaba has struggled with injuries for the majority of his spell at Real Madrid and his summer exit is unlikely to faze Los Blancos.

Real Madrid, instead, are looking at the markets to bring in fresh defensive reinforcements, with Nico Schlotterbeck emerging as one of the top targets for the club.
