Sunderland return to Premier League duty against Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, and Régis Le Bris faces significant selection calls.
According to Sunderland Echo, some Africa Cup of Nations absentees are back, boosting options, although key injuries still need managing.
Robin Roefs continued a stellar start with three saves from three in the penalty shootout win at Everton, and he looks a certainty to continue in goal.
With Reinildo back from AFCON, Le Bris can pick from his full defensive unit, creating welcome but tricky choices. Nordi Mukiele has arguably been best centrally, yet from right back his long throws and aerial presence are invaluable.
Sunderland will handle Dan Ballard’s workload carefully after a recent achilles issue, and his early withdrawal on Wednesday might have helped.
Omar Alderete struggled against Brentford in the last league game but has otherwise been outstanding this season. After a rest at Everton, it is hard to imagine him not returning to the XI.
