Stade de Reims’ Ewen Jaouen (20) is not expected to move to Chelsea this summer, according to reports in The Standard.

Nevertheless, the France Under-21 international continues to attract interest, with his name having recently been linked with Newcastle United and Real Madrid. Having enjoyed an impressive season in Ligue 2, in which he made 34 appearances and kept no fewer than 15 clean sheets, Jaouen is unlikely to remain in Champagne for long, where his contract runs until June 2029.

For Chelsea, the decision not to sign the Paris-born player is, however, easily explained. Keen to find a new backup for Robert Sánchez (28), with Filip Jörgensen (24) set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, the Blues’ management have reportedly already identified RC Strasbourg Alsace goalkeeper Mike Penders (20) as the chosen successor to the Swede.

Having also enjoyed a fine season with the Alsatian club, to whom he was loaned a year ago, Penders is expected to be quickly integrated into Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of next season.
