Crystal Palace are stepping up their recruitment plans following Eberechi Eze’s £67.5 million move, with Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott emerging as a leading target. According to Football Insider, Palace are preparing talks with Liverpool as they search for a creative player to fill the void left by Eze’s departure.
Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown expressed his surprise at the 22-year-old’s situation, telling Football Insider: “I’m surprised he hasn’t found a destination yet, Elliott, because there’s been no shortage of interest. I expected him to move somewhere like a Palace, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and yes it might still happen, but it’s late in the window now.”

RB Leipzig have also been heavily linked with Elliott. Reports indicate that Chelsea’s potential sale of Xavi Simons could be crucial to finalising a deal for the England international, although Palace are believed to be monitoring developments closely and are prepared to act quickly.

Brown added: “Harvey Elliott is one who I hear they could be ready to make a move for. He would be a good player for a number of clubs, and there are a few in the Premier League who are still keeping an eye on his situation. I think he would fit in well with the way Palace play, in that position where he’s not quite a winger and not quite a number ten, he can drift around.”
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is eager to see reinforcements arrive before the window closes. Football Insider reported that Glasner has been “frustrated” with the slow pace of recruitment, with Palace having signed only Borna Sosa from Ajax and Walter Benitez from PSV this summer.
Speculation around Marc Guehi’s future has added pressure on Palace to make decisive moves. Brown confirmed that the club are already exploring multiple options. “It will be very difficult for Palace to replace Eze,” he said. “He was such a key figure in the squad and in the way they played. But it’s something they’ve already started working on, and there are a few players they’re looking at who could potentially come in and replace him.”

Liverpool’s stance on Elliott will be decisive as Arne Slot assesses his squad for the season ahead. While competition in midfield has intensified with recent signings, Elliott remains highly regarded at Anfield. His versatility as a drifting playmaker gives him value both as a squad option and a potential asset for a significant transfer fee.

With time running out in the window, Palace’s determination to land Elliott signals their intent to rebuild swiftly following Eze’s exit.
Liverpool fans will watch this situation closely, as Elliott has long been seen as one of the brightest young prospects to emerge in recent years. While he has impressed in flashes, he faces intense competition for minutes in an evolving midfield under Arne Slot. The club’s rebuild over the summer prioritised tactical versatility and pressing energy, attributes that Elliott possesses, but his long-term future may depend on whether he can secure consistent first-team football.
A move to Crystal Palace could be attractive for both parties. Palace’s need for a creative hub after Eze’s departure makes Elliott a natural fit, offering him the opportunity to thrive in a side that values technical quality. For Liverpool, a substantial transfer fee could be reinvested in strengthening other areas. However, supporters will be cautious about losing another homegrown talent who has shown flashes of elite potential.
RB Leipzig’s interest only adds intrigue, highlighting Elliott’s value on the European stage. A player who can operate as a wide playmaker or a central midfielder is in high demand, and if Chelsea’s sale of Simons unlocks Leipzig’s move, Liverpool could face a decision between a domestic or European transfer.
Given the club’s recent history of carefully managing outgoings, any sale would likely come with clauses to protect future value. If Elliott leaves, Liverpool fans will hope he flourishes, but many will still wonder whether his potential was fully realised at Anfield.
