Newcastle United have emerged as a potential destination for Stefan de Vrij, with the Inter Milan defender entering the final months of his contract.

According to Football Insider, via FCInter1908, Newcastle have made enquiries after De Vrij struggled for consistent minutes in the first half of the season.

The Dutchman could leave Inter Milan as early as this month if the right opportunity arises.

The Magpies’ interest links directly to their defensive injury problems.

Fabian Schär faces an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing ankle surgery, while Dan Burn has also missed time since December.
