Richard Keys has questioned how Manchester City can keep spending while alleged financial breaches remain unresolved, as their move for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson gathers pace.
According to Nottingham Post, fresh talks were held on Wednesday, with two bids already rejected and a third expected. Forest want a British record fee of about £130m, which would top the £125m Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak 12 months ago.
Keys also asked why Anderson should not be focused on the World Cup rather than a transfer. He cited 135 unresolved FFP charges and called the situation an insult to supporters.
In 2023 City were charged with breaking Financial Fair Play rules over a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018, and with failing to cooperate with the Premier League investigation. The club deny any wrongdoing. A behind-closed-doors hearing was held in 2024 and, a year and a half on, no ruling has been published.
City were charged with 115 alleged breaches, although Sky Sports has reported it is believed the actual number is 130.
Anderson is a leading target for the FA Cup winners this summer. Their second offer exceeded £120m, comprising £106m up front and £15m in add-ons.
There is no suggestion he is anything other than fully focused on England’s World Cup campaign. He started both opening group games and is likely to keep his place for Saturday against Panama. He impressed against Croatia in a 4-2 win, setting up Jude Bellingham for the third.
He has said he is blocking out the noise, focusing on the present and putting himself in the best position to perform for England.
